Palestine and the Future of Palestinian Youth Resource Center

This website is developed by a group of high school youth from across America to help increase the awareness about Palestine, and the atrocities the Palestinian people have endured over the past 75+ years since 1917.

You and others be educated on this topic, and we can work together to make a positive change toward justice and peace.

Background

There are close to five million Palestinian refugees according to the United Nations. This does not include the other 5 million displaced Palestinians who have settled in other nations across the globe. There are some 3 million Palestinians and around 600,000 Israeli settlers living in the West Bank, an area that includes East Jerusalem. Israel captured the West Bank, as well as the Gaza Strip, during a war with its Arab neighbors in 1967. These areas are known today as the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).

Since the start of the occupation, Israel has administered different parts of the OPT in different ways. In 1967, Israel unilaterally annexed East Jerusalem and included these Palestinian parts of the city, as well as a surrounding area of over 70 km2, within the boundaries of the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem.

The forced removal of Palestinian families is considered a potential war crime according to The United Nations Commission for Human Rights. Here at ILIA, through our Palestine Resource Center, we came across the fact that today there are more than 7 million Palestinian refugees. However, the vast majority of Americans are unaware of this crisis. Palestinian refugees are more than just numbers, they are mothers, fathers, and children who dream of a better future.
